Microsoft Build 2025: AI joins the workflow
On May 19, 2025, Microsoft held its annual Microsoft Build conference, where the protagonist was artificial intelligence (AI) and its deep integration into the digital and business ecosystem. From GitHub to Azure, through Microsoft 365 and Edge, the new features presented mark a before and after in the way of working.
GitHub Copilot becomes an autonomous agent
GitHub Copilot evolves from an assistant to an autonomous agent. It can now execute development tasks on its own: it corrects errors, improves documentation, and adds functionalities. When assigned a task, it launches a virtual machine, clones the repository, analyzes the code, and documents its decisions. When finished, it notifies the developer and responds to comments. This functionality is designed to accelerate development in complex business environments.
A practical example: A development team can ask Copilot to document a legacy module. The agent will analyze the code, generate the technical documentation, and explain why it made certain decisions. Saving hours, clear context for new developers.
Grok comes to Azure
Microsoft incorporates the Grok 3 and Grok 3 mini models from xAI (Elon Musk’s company) into Azure AI Foundry, expanding the range of available models. This favors greater freedom of technological choice for developers and researchers. They are in free preview until June.
New AI APIs in Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge introduces APIs that allow access to the Phi-4-mini model from the browser itself. New possibilities are opened for web apps to integrate text generation, summaries, or editing directly from the frontend, without additional backend.
Customization in Microsoft 365 Copilot
With Copilot Tuning, organizations can adapt Microsoft 365 Copilot to their processes without the need for technical knowledge. This low-code tool allows customizing models with internal data for specific tasks such as generating business proposals, meeting summaries, or automated responses.
In addition, multi-agent orchestration has been introduced in Copilot Studio, which allows multiple agents to collaborate on complex tasks, dividing the work according to their specialization. For example, during the onboarding of a new employee, agents from human resources, IT, and marketing can coordinate to complete the process efficiently.
The ability to integrate proprietary models into Copilot Studio has also been enabled through integration with Azure AI Foundry, providing access to more than 1,900 models, including those adjusted to specific industries.
NLWeb: natural interfaces for the web
Microsoft presented NLWeb, an open project that allows developers to easily build web interfaces powered by natural language. With just a few lines of code, websites can offer a personalized conversational experience, using the AI model and the data they choose.
NLWeb is based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that facilitates controlled interaction between AI agents and web content, allowing for a more decentralized and efficient search.
For example, a recipe site can implement a chatbot that suggests complementary dishes, while a clothing retailer can help users choose outfits for specific occasions.
The “agentic web” is here
Build 2025 consolidated Microsoft’s commitment to an open agentic web, where AI agents interact and decide with the user. This vision implies that agents not only respond to commands, but also collaborate with each other, share information, and complete complex tasks autonomously.
To support this vision, Microsoft is adopting the Model Context Protocol (MCP) in Windows, allowing AI applications to seamlessly connect with other services and components of the operating system.
In addition, methods are being explored to improve the memory of AI agents, such as structured augmented retrieval, which allows agents to retain concise information from interactions with users to improve efficiency and personalization.
