Malta–Spain Innovation Corridor: Connecting Ecosystems

Malta–Spain innovation corridor connecting European startup ecosystems

Innovation across Europe is accelerating, yet the ecosystems that drive it remain fragmented. Talent exists everywhere. Ideas emerge in every community. But the pathways that transform ideas into ventures and ventures into thriving companies are often concentrated in a small number of established hubs.

The next chapter of European innovation will not be defined by a few dominant ecosystems. It will be defined by how effectively ecosystems connect, collaborate, and unlock the untapped potential that exists between them.

My Tech Plan and The Garage are launching a joint initiative to build an innovation corridor between Malta and Spain: a strategic bridge between two ecosystems with enormous growth potential.

Why a Malta–Spain Corridor

Across Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, there is a vast reservoir of entrepreneurial potential waiting to be activated: professionals exploring entrepreneurship, communities with strong creative and technical capabilities, regions with strategic geographic positions between continents.

Yet many of these ecosystems remain under-connected to the broader European innovation landscape. Too often, promising ideas fail to evolve because founders lack access to networks, mentorship, and structured pathways into entrepreneurship.

Building stronger bridges between ecosystems is essential if Europe is to unlock the full potential of its innovation capacity.

The Garage: Expanding the Pipeline of Women Entrepreneurs

Across Europe and the Mediterranean, more women are exploring entrepreneurship as a path toward independence, flexibility, and economic agency. Yet much of the startup ecosystem was not designed with their reality in mind.

The Garage operates precisely in this space. It is a community-driven initiative designed to bring new talent into the entrepreneurial ecosystem through women-led programs and communities. Its work focuses on the earliest stage of the founder journey, when an idea is still forming and the biggest barriers are often structural or psychological rather than technical.

Participants gain support to:

  • Explore and validate business ideas
  • Develop practical entrepreneurial skills
  • Connect with founders, investors, and ecosystem leaders
  • Transition from concept to early-stage venture

At My Tech Plan, we collaborate with organizations like The Garage because they are building structured entry points into entrepreneurship: environments where new founders can move from curiosity to capability with the right guidance, tools, and community.

Why This Matters for Innovation Ecosystems

Innovation ecosystems grow through talent density and diversity. When access to entrepreneurship is limited to a narrow group of founders, ecosystems miss out on ideas, perspectives, and companies that could otherwise emerge.

Initiatives like The Garage expand the entry layer of the ecosystem, creating pathways for new founders who might otherwise never engage with the startup world. The result is a stronger and more resilient innovation landscape.

The Partnership: 8+ Years of Joint Experience

This collaboration brings together two organizations with more than 8 years of joint experience operating across international tech and innovation ecosystems. Both My Tech Plan and The Garage are:

  • Embedded in global innovation networks
  • Operating trusted partnerships across corporate, startup, and institutional layers
  • Building communities that connect talent, capital, and ideas across regions

Together, we combine ecosystem insight, program design, and operational execution to create curated innovation experiences.

Phase One: The Pilot

The collaboration begins with a pilot initiative designed to test and refine a model for cross-ecosystem engagement. This first phase focuses on:

  • Connecting Malta’s emerging innovation ecosystem with Spain’s dynamic startup landscape
  • Facilitating curated interactions between founders, investors, and ecosystem leaders
  • Creating structured experiences during major technology events
  • Establishing the foundations for a long-term Malta–Spain innovation corridor

The pilot will serve as a learning environment to refine the model and expand future collaborations.

Strategy Meets Experience Design

At the core of this collaboration is a simple principle:

You focus on strategy. We engineer the experience.

My Tech Plan and The Garage act as ecosystem orchestrators, designing environments where meaningful connections can emerge. Together, we:

  • Define program goals and strategic outcomes
  • Design the structure and agenda
  • Activate ecosystem partners
  • Curate participants and coordinate introductions
  • Manage program execution and on-site flow

The objective is not to maximize the number of meetings. The objective is to optimize for relevance, alignment, and real collaboration.

Looking Ahead

The Malta–Spain initiative represents the first step in building stronger bridges between European innovation ecosystems.

Because the future of entrepreneurship will not be shaped by isolated hubs. It will be shaped by the strength of the connections between them.
